"As our world recovers following Godzilla’s climactic battle against the Devonians, a threat unlike any before takes aim at not only our world, but the monsters themselves! One of the biggest chapters in the series starts right here!"

Looks like the cat’s out of the bag! Jeff’s cover for our upcoming issue 14 of RULERS OF EARTH!

Those….eyes…

SOON.

Recently I've been working on a small series of Nightvision Godzilla fan art. So far I've got the king done and posted but im working on Rodan and Anguirus. But they got me thinking, what if they made a Rodan stand alone film with references to Godzilla? Then another thought, what if Anguirus was to appear with Rodan to coincide with G 2014's origins (once fully revealed). A more realistic thought was if Rodan and Anguirus simply appeared together in a Godzilla sequel. Would that work at all?

I would LOVE to see a sort of “new Kaijuverse” in the style of the Marvel Studios films, which, of course, was how the Toho films of the 60’s were more or less modeled (or rather retconned).
The trouble is that you’d have to establish each new kaiju film as a separate piece of filmmaking when compared to Godzilla, but still a part of the same universe.
For example, the Iron Man films are modern techno-action-comedies. Captain America flip-flops between period-piece war film and post-Cold-War spy thriller. The Thor movies are sci-fi-fantasy epics. Etc, etc.

A Rodan film would have to play with something different from Godzilla. It could air more towards sci-fi-tech-action by showing an anti-kaiju task force utilizing new weaponry against a flying monster that can break the sound barrier and destroy whole cities just by flying over them. Then you have these new super-sonic, super-armored jets go after it. Of course, you can’t JUST have Rodan. I don’t know if Anguirus is a good fit, but you can’t just do bugs like the Meganula again (since Godzilla is doing that already). Although, unlike Godzilla, who’s being built up as a kind of “enforcer,” a big guard dog, Rodan is a pure destructive force who is much more wild and unpredictable. I think a family of Rodans would be the best approach - something like a halfway point between the original Rodan and, to a lesser extent, Godzilla (1998). You have the threat of a population explosion of Rodans, and that’s the ticking clock where the drama of the film can come from.

I’d rather see Angy appear in a new Destroy All Monsters style film where MUTO (or whatever the anti-kaiju agency will be) has been collecting monsters to put on the island, and Anguirus is one of them. You can’t just have “Godzilla vs. X” anymore, unless it’s a heavy-hitter like Hedorah, Mothra, Ghidorah, etc.

I saw the poll on your DA page, if you did or do a redesign of Godzilla for your Neo series, what would he look like? Would he be a little similar to how your original design was, with some slight alterations or something completely radical and new?

"30 years ago, Godzilla appeared for the first time. Before that, he was only a legend. Godzilla is a warning. A warning to every one of us. When mankind falls into conflict with nature, monsters are born." - Dr. Hayashida.
